Save a life lab

In class we had to make a life-jacket to keep a guy’s head out of the water so he doesn’t die. My groups design was successful because the guys head was out of the water although it took two tries to finally do it. We could have improved it by preventing this hole we accidentally poked in the life jacket (even though it didn’t affect it too much. The life jacket affects the guys density by increasing the volume which allows it to float

Simple machines blog post

In class we have been learning about simple machines, which make “work” (force x distance) easier. The only problem with it is that you use less force but it increases distance.  Here some examples of simple machines, the lever (a inclined plane on a fulcrum)  it allows you to lift heavy objects with less force. A pulley is a wheel and axle with rope going through it here is how it works, first you tie a rope to the object you want to lift, second you grab the other end and use your weight and a bit of your strength and you can pull it up. If the object weighs more than you then you add another wheel and axle.

Also in class we built a Rube Goldberg machine it was pretty cool, we were trying to get it to press a “easy” button. Our Rube Goldberg machine was successful, it did what it was supposed to do and did it as planned. The machine wasn’t to hard to build, but it was probably hard to do it and set the next people up for success. We had a ton of materials and plenty left over so I think we did it better than expected although we did have a lot of levers because they are easy to build, but all and all I think we did a good job.
